It was a very interesting trip, and I followed up with another visit on the last day of Ramadan. I’ll add one more observation that didn’t make it into the post. These Muslims were somewhat critical of some of their own, like the Mullahs who keep their followers in ignorance and isolation as a way of staying in power. Of course, they are not unique among demagogues, religious and secular, in using this tactic.
